We ventured into forest school for Outdoor Learning Week!
Outdoor learning week was fun! We were lucky enough to have 5 Star Sports to come in and lead some sessions. We did Football, Pickleball, Hockey and Dodgeball.
Our DT day was a success. Lots of patience around the room was tested, however, it seems we are now on our way to having some book covers! The children found sewing quite difficult to start with, but everyone persevered. We are very proud of what we have achieved so far!
Sports day was a success!
French fun in the sun with Madame Bex!
In DT, we have been looking at pavilions. We looked at a few famous ones to gather some inspirations. Here are some examples!
Year 4 were lucky to be chosen to take part in Leodis Art Week. They ventured into the forest and sculpted clay to make it look like a woodland animal. Here are some of the creations!
Whilst learning about solids, liquids and gases, the children experimented with different ways of melting chocolate into a liquid, then turning it back into a solid again. Suddenly, everyone was hungry!
In computing, the children have been using Scratch, doing their own coding, and have eventually made a timestables game.
The French Spelling Bee! The children were challenged to memorise as many French words as they could, before being tested with a 60 second timer. 8 children got through stage 1!
In DT, the children have been working together to make their very own slingshot cars. It's been a challenge, but very successful!
In PE with Mr Whawell, the children have been doing football and have been working on their technique.

In science, we have been exploring ‘teeth’, having many discussions on how we look after them, and the implications that we could face if we don’t. In order to investigate this matter further, we used 6 different liquids and 6 eggs (the eggs’ shells are very similar to the enamel of teeth), and then we left the eggs soaking in the liquids for 5 days, to see what affect the liquids would have. We were amazed to see that the acid in the vinegar had completed decayed the shell, and we were just left with the membrane! The coffee had stained the eggs, and the coke had also decayed the shell. Following our investigation, the children then wrote up their results as a letter to a dentist, telling them their findings.
Year 4 absolutely loved their introduction to their new PE topic - gymnastics. They have worked together to create balances that they will include in a gymnastics routine in the upcoming weeks.
In computing, we have been studying a topic called ‘Collaborative Learning.’ Within this topic, the children have learnt how documents can be shared with each other, and the different formats of documents that can be used. After each logging onto a their own email addresses, the fun began! Laughter spread across the room as they each had a go at adding a sentence to each other’s stories by sharing them with each other, watching their stories unravel. The next lesson, the children learnt how to create a Microsoft Form, and again, shared these with each other, watching the responses roll in.
The children have loved our science topic ‘Animals, including Humans.’ Throughout this lesson, they explored the digestive system and how it works, and then had a go at labelling their very own, life size one!
Finally, after lots of designing and resilience, we finally finished our torches!
As an introduction to our new DT topic, we investigated circuits, and how insulators and conductors can make a difference to them. The children had lots of fun trialling different objects!
This half term, we have been diving into the enchanting world of poetry! In Art, we explored Lewis Carroll's whimsical poem, 'The Jabberwocky,' which sparked our imaginations. Using charcoal, black crayon, graphite, and rubbers, the children created artwork inspired by the poem's vivid imagery.
In Science, we have been exploring 'living things and their habitats'. Therefore, we visited the wildlife garden, where we surveyed various minibeasts and subsequently classified them according to their distinct characteristics and habitats.
In Geography, we have been exploring the fascinating topic of water. We have learnt about the water cycle and the intricate processes that ensure clean water reaches our taps. Additionally, we experimented with creating our own filters to discover whose water was the clearest; however, no one dared to taste Miss Garfield's 'soup'.
For international languages week, we explored how many different languages we know in our classroom. We then counted up to ten. We knew French, German, Italian, Spanish and Mandarin!
